It’s officially one of my favourite times of year — autumn — and the introduction of a new season of fashion. That’s right, girls — it’s time to cosy up in layers, a darker colour palette and all of the snugly knitwear (hot chocolate optional).
Who’s ready? Because I know I am!
You’ve probably already seen some key AW24 fashion trends pop up on your Instagram feeds. (Leopard print — I’m looking at you!)
But, let’s take a look at the variety on offer this season. Whether you’re a fashion fanatic or just like to dabble from time to time, I’ve got you covered so you can stay warm in style over the next few months.
1. Leopard Print
Since I already mentioned it, let’s start with the print that’s making fashionistas go purr-retty crazy this fall. Love it or hate it, the leopard is back courtesy of designers such as Zimmermann, Versace and Dior, and it’s not for the faint-hearted.
I usually have a fickle relationship with leopard print. That being said, I’m enjoying its comeback, especially in the classic brown-and-black format.
While I’d recommend avoiding head-to-toe ensembles, the leopard print can look very cutesy, very demure as a hero piece or accessory. Think midi skirts, long-sleeve fitted tops, ballet shoes, a chunky scarf and/or a shoulder bag.
Either way, this is one of the boldest AW24 fashion trends and can create a playful look full of personality, so have fun with it.

2. Brilliant Burgundy
Burgundy was a huge autumn/winter trend a few years back and I love the hue, so I’m super happy this one is coming back for AW24.
I’ve seen some of my fave influencers wear it as a full outfit (a la Chloe) or stick with a key piece (inspired by Etro). In my opinion, it’s great both ways. Having said that, I’ve currently got my eye on the viral Primark jumper — it’s so adorable when styled with mid-blue, straight-leg jeans and matching burgundy Adidas Spezial trainers.
Burgundy also pairs well with brown, navy and grey, so it’s serving the perfect autumn outfit palette. J’adore.

3. Preppy Chic
Blair Waldorf, watch out — we’re all coming for your fashion crown this Autumn/Winter 2024/25. The preppy look was popular in AW23 but it’s even more dominant this season.
Tommy Hilfiger and Paco Rabanne led the way with pointed shirt collars, followed by Dior and Miu Miu showcasing blazers and cardigans all over their catwalks. However, the best preppy piece has to be the checked Clueless-inspired skirt seen at Elisabetta Franchi and Helmut Lang.
Think: these mini skirts teamed with heeled knee-high boots, an oversized blazer and a turtleneck jumper for the most stylish modern take. Don’t forget your small shoulder bag and sunglasses for added sass.

4. Seventies Suede
As well as the autumn/winter fabric staples like faux leather and teddy borg, it’s time to welcome seventies-style suede to the club this season.
Like leopard print, suede can be a bit like marmite. Sure, we all love it in the form of our winter footwear, like on the toes of our Adidas sambas and the outside of our Uggs. But to make our clothing? A little questionable.
Regardless, suede jackets, skirts and tops are going to be mega. I recommend one suede piece per outfit, and you can start with a handbag if suede clothing feels too ambitious.
Keep in mind that washing machines can damage suede’s colour and shape, so hand wash with cool water only.

5. Draped to Perfection
Speaking of materials, soft fabrics that hug and drape the body are heading our way and I’m 100% here for it. It’s giving effortless elegance while creating feminine silhouettes and being undeniably flattering.
Look to Fendi and Erdem for unique outerwear and Saint Laurent and Dolce & Gabanna for beautiful, breathtaking dresses. Then there were the likes of Mulberry and Paolo Lanzi offering up a myriad of draped collars, putting a contemporary spin on AW24 knitwear.
As draping can capture a lot of attention, keep the rest of your outfit simple to avoid overdoing it. For instance, a draped top looks so chic just with high-waisted jeans or a wide-leg trouser.

6. Textured Everything
One of the most unsurprising AW24 fashion trends is texture. After all, the party season fast approaches, and if sequins, tassels and bouclés were missing, I’d be a little concerned!
But it wasn’t just gold lamé at Jason Wu and metallic fringing at Valentino that we saw at fashion shows. We also saw feathered capes at Bottega Veneta and faux fur coats at Givenchy to luxe up your outerwear to the max.
I’ll mostly be sticking with the usual sequins and metallics the autumn/winter season is known for, but I’m partial to trying new textures. The faux fur coat, in particular, is another nod to the seventies and can easily elevate an otherwise laid-back look.

7. Not-So-Boring Brown
Finally, this isn’t exactly a new trend for AW24, but an extension of the neutral tones that have stuck around for several seasons now… Here come various shades of coffee, no matter how you personally take yours.
From the caramel lattes of Chanel and Burberry to the black, no-sugar hues at Miu Miu and Prada, get ready to see a whole lot of brown in wardrobes across the nation.
As a primarily neutral girlie, I’m loving this! I’ll be mixing different shades to create a head-to-toe tonal look, or teaming my brown separates with other neutrals for an alluring “old money” aesthetic.
